About

Important!

Anathema was my first web serial and is now complete. The first seven Anathema arcs (with the exception of the prologue and first chapter) went offline on Sunday, the 29th of July 2018 as I wanted to re-release the ebook version into Kindle Unlimited.

I’ll keep arcs 8+ online for those who started reading a while back and haven’t experienced the final arcs just yet, or those who read the ebooks and would prefer not to wait for the edited versions of the later chapters (they’ll be worth the wait, though!)

Gift of Light, the new serialized novel, is currently active and being updated on Sundays. Jump directly to the first chapter here. This story uses Anathema’s established setting and timeline of events, but follows different characters.

Gift of Light synopsis:

Nicoletta AKA Wisp has a gift: she shapes sunlight into floating spheres that can alert her of impending danger – which is fortunate since her home, a city tainted by the aftermath of a supervillain’s death, bears a curse. Toxic vapors rise from the sewers on hot summer days, snuffing out anything that lives at ground level.

No one is supposed live in the Dead City, but Wisp and her gang of underage runaways refused the mass evacuations, learning to live alongside the local calamity. The uncertainty of the outside world scared them even more than the dangers of their home.

Now, though, their friend Hannah has gone missing under suspicious circumstances. The deadly Smog has become increasingly unpredictable, and the crime lord in charge of the rival gang to the north is gearing up for conflict. Wisp is prepared to defend her friends and the only home she has ever known, but she and her gang are outnumbered and underequipped and her powers are not exactly suitable for combat…

Anathema Synopsis:

Two years ago, The Pulse—a sudden shift in Earth’s electromagnetic field—caused a global blackout and wiped a minute from mankind’s collective memory. This event introduced superhuman powers to our world. But the worst was yet to come.

Now two teenagers are caught in the chaos of a changing world:

Christina Chung, an antisocial misfit whose force fields are fueled by the social bonds she broke during the event of her transition.

Former coke addict Sarina Baumann, whose reality-altering power forces her to abandon everything she holds dear.

The two girls find themselves entangled with the renegade hero Radiant and the authorities that made him. The three must find a way—and a place—to be the heroes they’re destined to become. But sometimes, even the heroes fall…

A note for visitors: Unlike the ebook version, the free web serial has only been partially edited. The earlier chapters are fairly similar to their book equivalents, but the web serial’s later arcs are still early drafts, and there are some small differences in content as well.

  1. Is there some quick way to navigate to the latest post? Right now, I go to the main page (defaults to About), then go to TOC, then scroll aaaaallllll the way down.

    • I’m going to try and find a way to condense the TOC so the line spaces between the links are much smaller. I’ve no idea why my theme insists on making them huge. I might also create a ‘latest chapter here’ link on this page.

I’d rather not display the latest chapter on the start page, though. Some chapters could spoil parts of the story for someone new who hasn’t caught up yet,

  2. I just read through the intro and I noticed that is says “a withdrawn teenager whose powers are affected by social bonds” when describing Mascot. Has that been mentioned in the story? If it has then I’ve missed it. If not, that looks to be an accidental spoiler.

    • For the most part, it’s one of those things that are shown rather than outright stated. The 2.7 interlude should be fairly clear about it (or so I hope), some other chapters are much more subtle.

  3. I want to start reading this story based on a reco, but the prologue says temporarily unavailable. For how long?

    • Oh! That’s because I had the wrong version online and was too busy to find the right version (I have so many different variations of the prologue…) I’ve been horrifically busy, apologies about that. If you like, you could go read the prologue in the free’look inside’ sample of the ebook, which has the correct version. It’s fairly short. If you want to wait, I’ll get it fixed sometime tomorrow. The link to the ebook is in the ‘ebooks’ section of the blog, just click on the cover on Amazon to read the prologue there, you don’t need to pay.
